You will notice a lot of
people, most in fact, will either tie their lead rope to their saddle horn, or
take it off and put it in their saddlebags when they are trail riding. The US Calvary as well as The Royal Canadian
Mounted Police use what is a Calvary Knot to keep their lead rope in place, you
have seen them but might not have recognized it as a lead rope. See the photo below:
